Our Story

A backyard scene with a glass-top patio table and six cushioned chairs on a grassy lawn. The area is shaded by a large tree and surrounded by greenery. Red Adirondack chairs are placed near a lake in the background beside a rustic wooden house with red shutters.

Almost a century ago, Dr. Hendricks, with some fishing buddies, purchased 300 acres of land that today encompasses the Alderbrook Lodge. This beautiful mountain setting, complete with hiking trails, a man-made lake, and babbling streams, was lovingly developed as a private hunting and fishing retreat.

When the property was looking for a new owner in the early 2000s, it was love at first sight for the Gardener family. The family previously had a house on Lake George and loved the area, so when they had the opportunity to invest in the larger property, they went all in, using the Lodge as a family getaway and rental, restoring it over the years and adding the additional buildings. Still in the family today, it is owned and operated by husband and wife team Geoffrey Gardner and Jessica Wilcox.

Blessed with four seasons, the property is enjoyed for its peace, tranquility, breathtaking views, hiking, swimming, boating, nearby golfing and skiing, and other fun-filled activities.

While the Alderbrook Lodge property provides endless opportunities to explore the best of the Adirondacks, Bolton Landing and the shores of Lake George are only minutes away, as is the Sagamore Resort and Golf Course. The Saratoga Race Course, a popular summer destination, is located an hour’s drive to the south, and, for those who enjoy the snow, Gore Mountain is a short 30-minute drive north.

The main Lodge has eight bedrooms abutting the lake. The property is also host to a three-bedroom Chalet overlooking the lake, as well as a barn located across the Alderbrook Stream, where guests can play a variety of games on rainy days. Guests of both the Lodge and the Chalet are permitted access to the common areas, including the Lake and the Barn. For exclusive use of the property, we suggest renting both the Lodge, the Chalet and Yurt, sleeps 30. A resort unlike any other, come explore and experience the ADK magic.

We’re always looking to improve the property and add new ways to enjoy the Adirondacks, so check back often to see new additions like The Yurt! This is where we PLAY!
